What Kid-Safe Plants Can Survive Blazing Sun and Irregular Watering?

I'm looking for advice on what to plant in a school planter at my workplace. The planter gets full sun for most of the day, and unfortunately, it only gets watered when I plead with the custodian. I recently planted some aeoniums, but they're really struggling to survive. I'm looking for suggestions that are safe for kids, so no cacti or anything spiky. Also, if you could suggest plants that can handle the heat and minimal water, that would be awesome!

You mentioned you're in zone 9b, right? That's perfect for a lot of sun-loving plants! Just make sure whatever you pick can handle the heat and doesn't require much water. Besides moss rose, you might also look into some sedums, which are also drought-resistant and safe for kids.

Hey there! You might want to consider moss rose (purslane) for your planter. They're super colorful and can thrive in hot, sunny spots. Plus, they store water in their leaves, so they’re pretty drought-tolerant too! Kids will love the bright flowers, and they’re safe to have around.

Absolutely, that's a great suggestion! They add a lot of vibrancy and need minimal care.
