Best Garden Suppliers in Edinburgh and Lothian?

I'm a beginner gardener located in the heart of Edinburgh, and I'm on a mission to transform my drab gravel yard into a lush garden that's inviting to birds, pollinators, and maybe even some frogs. I'm looking for recommendations on where to get everything I might need, from soil and plants to seeds and more. If anyone has experience with local suppliers in Scotland, especially those that can deliver, I'd really appreciate your tips!

If you're willing to travel a bit, the Klondyke Garden Centre in Falkirk is my top pick. It's not like the Livingston one; this place has a huge selection and a great garden shop, plus they even have a vegetable market! You won't regret the trip.

For turf and preparation, check out Mitchel Turf! They might be a bit pricey, but they cut it fresh the morning of delivery from Tyninghame, and they have excellent composted bark. If you need bulk composts or soil improvers, Caledonian Horticulture is a solid option. I had fresh soil improvers delivered that were still steaming, but I wouldn't recommend them for topsoil since it can be quite clay-heavy. For seeds and plants, Smeaton Nursery in East Lothian has good advice and reasonable prices, plus they deliver!

That's interesting! I’ve heard mixed things about Caledonian Horticulture. Their website looks super polished for just a soil supplier, and I've been hesitant about trying them.

Totally get that! I had a bad experience with their topsoil too – it was mostly clay and not great at all.
