I just experienced a scary moment while changing batteries in my kid's toy and found one of the new Duracell Plus AA batteries was burning hot! I had no idea batteries could be a fire hazard. It made me think about how I store them. Right now, I keep new batteries in a plastic zip lock bag because I buy big packs, which sometimes causes batteries to slip out and become loose. I have toddlers who go through batteries quickly, so I want to ensure they're stored safely. Does anyone have tips or better ways to organize and store new batteries?

I just use a battery box to keep mine organized. It's a simple solution and works great!
I got a battery caddie to keep mine organized and out of the original packages. It really helps!
Thanks for the ideas! Mine are just tossed in old ice cream containers, so I definitely need to get more organized. I started using a DIY plastic sorting box with compartments for the new batteries, but now I'm worried about how to safely keep the old batteries until I recycle them.
I keep my batteries in a bamboo drawer from Kmart. I made sections out of particleboard for each battery size. Just my way of keeping things tidy!
I picked up something called Battery Daddy. My wife thought it was a silly purchase until she needed a battery. Now she loves it and brags about it!

I hear you! I didn’t even realize this battery hazard issue until recently either. I just switched to a plastic sorting box too, but still keep the used batteries in a closed metal container. Now I'm questioning if that's safe as well!
