Loud High-Frequency Animal Deterrent from Neighbor—What Can I Do?

We've just moved into a flat with a lovely garden and are keen on boosting the local wildlife, like hedgehogs and birds. However, there's a super annoying high-pitched noise coming from our neighbor's garden that really bothers us, especially since it's painful to hear. After a bit of investigation, we discovered it's an animal deterrent device that seems to be aimed at keeping foxes and cats away. The problem is, we're worried it might also affect our upcoming rescue dog and our plan to attract more wildlife. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What should we do about this?

If talking to him doesn’t work, you may want to gather some evidence of the noise and file a complaint with your local council. Just be prepared to back it up with some recordings. I’ve heard these devices can be annoying not just for kids, but for adults too!

First, consider talking to your neighbor directly. Let him know you can hear the device and see if he’d be willing to lower the volume or turn it off. You could mention how it's actually painful for you, without revealing your plans for the garden, of course. He might surprise you and be reasonable!

Haha, yeah, definitely avoid mentioning the foxes! Just keep it simple and see if he’s open to making some adjustments.

You could always sneak out late at night and turn it off when he’s not looking! He probably won't notice since he can't hear it, but it might be a bit risky. But seriously, if he’s not going to cooperate, you might want to think about contacting your local council about this noise. They might classify it as a nuisance if it’s bothering you significantly.

True, but if he's sound insensitive, he might not care anyway. Definitely worth recording the sound, though, just in case.
