How Can I Fix My Sloping Yard to Drain Water Away from My House?

I recently bought a double-wide trailer and noticed that the ground slopes towards the house while I was working on the walkway. My mother-in-law warned me not to pile dirt against the house because it could trap moisture and lead to rot. The wood skirting seems to go about two inches into the ground, and I'm concerned that raising it could make things worse. I want to level the ground and create a slight slope away from the house, possibly with a trench or some other drainage solution. What's the best way to prevent water from flowing towards my home and resolve this issue?

To stop water from flowing towards your house, you could either slope the ground away or install a French drain. Sloping is pretty straightforward, but setting up a French drain requires some work and might be a bit costly. Try to dig it so that it runs away from your house if you choose that route!

Yeah, I get that! The slope sounds simple, but how do I actually do it? Can I just move dirt from the higher area to fill in around the lower side? And do I need to keep anything between the dirt and the house to avoid moisture problems?
