Help! My Garden is Overrun with Ants – How Can I Get Rid of Them Naturally?

Asked By GreenThumb99 On

I've noticed that my garden is completely overrun by ants this year, and they've even invaded my potted plants. I'll admit, I've let the weeds grow quite a bit, which might have made things worse. Is anyone else dealing with this problem? I'm looking for natural methods to get rid of the ants. I'd appreciate any advice you have!

Honestly, if the ants aren’t causing any real damage, they might not be worth worrying about. Are they farming aphids or anything? I usually just deal with the aphids instead. But if they're bothering you around your porch and outdoor spaces, I get it!

Yeah, I just want to enjoy my space without ants crawling all over everything!

Ants love dry soil, so one trick I’ve found is to keep the area watered and dig around to disturb their nests. If you expose their eggs, they usually just pack up and leave. Trust me, it’s better to have them in your garden than in your home!

I just finished a big weeding session, so I'm hoping that might scare them off a bit!

If you can locate their nests, try pouring boiling water or vinegar directly on them. Also, spray vinegar around the bottom of your pots. For the garden, diatomaceous earth or a mixture of baking soda and sugar or boric acid works wonders. I've used diatomaceous earth, and after a couple of days, the ants usually vanish!

Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely try those out.

I agree with using diatomaceous earth. It’s been super effective for me; I've had to apply it a couple of times this year, but it really does make a difference.
