I'm looking to transform my basement into a dance space for ballet, making it less scary and more welcoming. Right now, the floor is all concrete, and I wanted to install click vinyl flooring. However, I've got a French drain that complicates things, and I'm hesitant about doing full wall framing. My current thought is to use a foam vapor barrier, attach some 2x4s to the concrete, and then glue panel boards to those. Does this sound like a bad idea? I'm open to suggestions!

Honestly, I think your idea could lead to some issues down the road. Given the French drain, moisture could be a big problem if you don't handle it right. Instead of wall framing, maybe consider using heavy curtains or canvas to break up the space and make it feel more cozy. It's low effort and can really help with the ambiance!
I get where you're coming from! It sounds like you're on the right track with the vinyl flooring; it can add a nice touch. Just make sure you address the moisture issue because it could ruin your flooring. I suggest consulting someone who has experience with basements, just to double-check your plan before diving in!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely consider the curtains idea.
