I've got a tricky situation with my house. The previous owners installed deck stairs that partially block a window in my walkout basement. If it were up to me, I would have either removed the window or placed the stairs differently. My main concern now is that the window might get damaged from kicks, objects hitting it, or snow piling up during the winter. Does anyone have suggestions for how I can reduce the risk of damage to this window?

One option is to remove the current stairs and extend the deck so that new stairs clear the window altogether. It’s a bigger project, but it could solve the issue long term. If you’re looking for something easier in the short term, there are other ways to protect the window!
What about adding a mid-stair landing right over the window? That could be a good solution too!
A quick fix could be to cover the window with a sheet of plexiglass or lexan. It's pretty durable and will still let light through, which can help protect it from potential impacts or snow damage.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. It definitely makes sense, just not sure I'm ready for that kind of project right now!
