Is My Basement’s Skim Coat Too Rough for LVP?

Hey everyone! I need some advice about a skim coat applied to my basement floor before laying down LVP. My contractor suggested this since the floor had some uneven spots, with some areas dropping as much as an inch. A concrete company recently finished the skim coat, and while it's more level, the surface is super rough! I'm worried it might create even more issues during installation. Should I ask for this to be redone? Here are some photos of what it looks like: [https://imgur.com/a/sASQFJi](https://imgur.com/a/sASQFJi)

No way they can lay LVP on that surface! They must have misunderstood your needs. You deserve to have a floor that's ready for installation, not something rough like that.

Honestly, that finish is not okay. If your contractor knew you were going to install LVP, they should have ensured a smooth surface. It sounds like they should have used a self-leveling compound instead of a regular skim coat.

Exactly! A proper smooth finish is vital for LVP. You might want to push for a redo.

It’s pretty baffling why they used a rough aggregate mix. A good skim coat should really be finer, probably just cement. I’d definitely reconsider having them fix this situation!
