I'm looking to replace my outside door, and I've taken measurements of the existing door. It measures 29 3/4" wide by 79 1/2" tall. I'm wondering if this measurement corresponds to a standard trade size, like how a '2x4' actually measures 1 3/4" x 3 1/2". Would a door labeled as 30"x80" work for my replacement, or do I need to stick to the exact measurements of my current door?

Remember that the 30x80 size refers to the door and the jamb. If your house is newer, you'll likely need a rough opening of about 30.5x80.5. Just be cautious—if the walls aren’t perfectly level, you might need to account for that too.
Yeah, a door listed as 30"x80" is basically a nominal size. It actually measures about 29-3/4" x 79-3/4". You might need to trim a bit off the bottom just to make sure it fits perfectly!
You're probably on the right track with the 30 x 80 door. If you're heading to a store, it's a good idea to measure your door opening and compare it with the new door dimensions. Keep in mind the frame around the door and any allowances you might need at the bottom. If the existing door is older, you may need to adjust the jam too.
I appreciate the insightful reply!
