Hi everyone, I'm dealing with a major issue here and could really use your advice. Back in October, I hired an insulation company to do an injection foam job, but I just discovered they've made a serious mistake. I called a plumber because I noticed moisture coming from the outer walls of my garage. When he cut into the drywall, we found out that the insulation crew drilled into a blackwater pipe not once, but three times! Every time I flush my toilet, there's about 1-2 liters of blackwater leaking into the wall, which is a huge mess.
To make things worse, it looks like they injected foam directly into the pipe too since there's no sign of foam anywhere in that area. We ran a camera through the line and found no foam, which suggests it might have gone somewhere else. I also checked other spaces where foam was injected and found they're mostly empty with just a few traces of foam. I'm beyond frustrated and want to know what my options are for compensation or a resolution. Any suggestions?

How much did you pay for this job? It sounds like time to consult a lawyer, especially since you're dealing with a biohazard from the blackwater leaks. You mentioned you spent around $4k and now have to fork out $900 for emergency repairs—that’s definitely something a lawyer could help you get compensated for.
First things first, you need to contact the insulation company right away. Give them a chance to fix the problem. If they don’t respond or fail to provide a solution, it might be wise to consider legal action. Also, avoid contacting your homeowners insurance just yet, as it could complicate things with ghost claims down the line.
Make sure to document everything—take lots of pictures while the walls are open, which could be crucial evidence later. If you have a signed contract with a licensed and insured contractor, consider bringing a public adjuster into the mix to help navigate involving your homeowners insurance. In situations like this, dealing with the aftermath is critical.
