I applied linseed oil to a wooden piece and now I want to remove it so I can put on a varnish. What's the easiest way to do this?

How old is the linseed oil on there? If it's raw, it may not have fully cured yet. If it's been on for about a month, you might get away with using a card scraper or sanding with 240 grit, then applying shellac before your varnish.

Sanding it off is one way to go. If your varnish is oil-based, you can actually apply it over the linseed oil without removing it. Just keep that in mind before you start sanding!

Removing linseed oil can be tricky since it soaks deep into the wood. You could sand down the surface a bit, but it might not come out evenly everywhere. It’s generally seen as a non-removable finish once it penetrates.
