Can I Use Chicken Manure in My Weed Tea for Better Fertilizer?

Asked By ChillGardener82 On

I'm trying my hand at making weed tea for the first time and I've got a bucket with a lid and a good amount of chicken poop. I'm wondering if I can just add the chicken manure to the tea to make it a stronger fertilizer. Any tips on how to do this properly?

It really depends on whether your chicken manure is composted or not. You can't just toss fresh chicken poop into your weed tea; it needs to undergo a composting process first, ideally for at least 90 days. Fresh manure can contain bacteria and pathogens that could harm your plants. So, your best bet is to compost the chicken poop first, or if you're in a hurry, you could spread it fresh on the soil and let it break down over a few months. Just be cautious with it!

Yeah, 90 days minimum is key. Waiting longer really adds to the safety!

I totally get that. I didn't think about the nasty stuff that might come with fresh manure!

Definitely skip the fresh stuff! If you add that directly to your weed tea, it could end up burning your plants. Always go for composted chicken manure to keep your plants safe and happy!
