My husband and I are moving into a new home next month, and we're debating whether to tackle the interior painting ourselves or hire professional painters. Our realtor mentioned that the existing paint is just a basic job that's easily scratched and looks unfinished. The home is a one-story, 1400 sq ft with an open concept living room/kitchen, 3 bedrooms, and 2 baths. We're planning to spend a weekend or two painting before we move in. Any advice?

If this isn't your first time painting, go for it! It'll save you money, and it's a nice chance to customize your space. But if you haven't painted before, you might want to consider hiring someone. It’s going to take more time than you think—at least 4 weekends for a job like yours! When professionals do it, they can get two coats done in about 4 or 5 days.
Painting it yourself is totally doable and could save you serious cash! Just be ready for it to take a bit longer than you anticipate. It's great that you can do this before you start moving in. I suggest priming with Bullseye 123 from Home Depot to make sure you're working on a solid surface, then rolling on two coats of latex paint in eggshell or satin for a nice finish.
Have you ever painted before? It involves a lot of prep work, but once that's done, the actual painting part is pretty easy. Definitely paint before you bring in any furniture.

That sounds like great advice! I didn’t realize it could take that long. Do you think the results would be that much better with pros?
