Best Design Ideas for Storing Propane Tanks in a Barn

Asked By BarnRanger95 On

I'm looking for some creative design ideas or schematics to build a rack for my 8, 20 lb propane tanks. My goal is to make it easy to load and unload the tanks, and since this will be in my barn, I want to utilize vertical space effectively. If anyone has built something similar or has recommendations, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

It's important to keep safety in mind when designing your propane tank storage. Check out the National Fire Prevention Act 58 (NFPA 58) for guidelines on safe propane practices. For instance, propane tanks should be stored vertically to prevent vapor accumulation. You might find it useful to ask an AI, like ChatGPT, about the safety standards, but be cautious about relying on it completely for design specifics!

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend asking AI for safety info. There are just better resources for that stuff.

For safety, skip the AI. Stick with trusted sources or professional advice.

You might want to consider building shelves next to your barn's stairs leading to the loft. Just a heads up, though—those tanks are pretty heavy, so if they need to be placed overhead, you'll really want to get some extra hands to help lift them.
