Can I Safely Paint Vinyl Windows Darker in a Northern Climate?

I'm considering painting my light beige vinyl windows a darker color, specifically the Sherwin Williams Vinyl Safe Black Magic. I live in the very northern United States, where summers can get a bit warm but not excessively, plus my house is mostly shaded, especially on the south side. I've heard conflicting opinions about whether it's safe to paint vinyl windows darker here; some say it's fine in northern areas, while others warn against it due to potential warping. I'm just looking for clarity on this topic!

I recently came across a video that talked about how window awnings used to be much more common before air conditioning was a thing. It made me think about heat management in any painting decision. Just be sure to consider how much sun your windows get!

Wait, what? How's that relevant? Just curious!

I went ahead and painted my vinyl windows black, and I'm really happy with it! I live in a hotter place with a high UV index, and even though I had some vintage dark aluminum windows before, the contrast was just too much. I used the Sherwin Williams Vinyl Safe Black Magic paint only on the outside. It's been three years now, and they've held up perfectly with no warping or issues. I also painted the trim of my other windows in the same color to unify everything, and it looks great!

That's awesome to hear! Some folks really freak out about the warping, but it sounds like you did your homework.
