Hey everyone! I'm in the middle of renovating my bathroom and I'm looking for advice on what type of drywall to use for the ceiling. Since the ceiling height is pretty low, I anticipate that there will be some direct water splashes. Should I go with cement board, green board, or maybe the purple board? I also don't plan to put tiles on the ceiling. I'm thinking of hiring a painter for the primer and will use BM Aurora shower and bath matte paint because I prefer a matte finish. Any recommendations?

Using plain white drywall with the BM shower and bath matte paint could work just fine! I've seen older showers with white drywall ceilings painted over and they've held up well for decades without any issues. Just make sure the paint is high-quality and properly applied to help resist moisture.
For a low ceiling in a bathroom where water splash is likely, I'd recommend using cement board. It’s robust and handles moisture well, but keep in mind it’s not typically meant to be painted directly. If you want to use it as a ceiling, ensure it's waterproofed or sealed. Also, consider Go Board; I find it to be a great alternative for bathrooms. Check it out for a different option!

Exactly! Just ensure that the paint is good for humid areas and it should be perfectly fine.
