I noticed that my contractor used deck screws for installing pine wood siding and the trim pieces instead of the typical nails. I'm wondering if this choice could lead to any issues, or if it's just seen as overkill. Aside from the aesthetic concern, are there any practical problems with using screws for this application?

It really depends on the type of siding you're using. For pine wood, deck screws should be okay, but watch out: screws can split fiber cement siding! Just make sure they handle temperature expansion correctly, and you should be good.
I don't think it's a problem at all! Some people see it as sloppy, but honestly, deck screws are usually stronger than nails, so it could actually be a smart choice. As long as they're installed properly and can handle temperature changes, it should work just fine.

Thanks for the heads up! I just have pine, no cement involved.
