I'm dealing with a tricky situation in my old cement slop sink. The rim where the drain is has started to chip away, making it hard to find a plug that fits snugly enough to hold water. This is especially important because I often soak large bed linens in hot water and use oxyclean. I need a tight-fitting plug since I have to move the linens around while they're soaking. I don't have access to a 3D printer or anything fancy, so I'm wondering if I could mold a plug using silicone or JB Weld instead. However, I'm concerned about losing anything down the drain while doing that. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Check out plumbing stores for hand pump balloon plugs. If it fits correctly, you can pump it up to create a seal, which could be a good solution. But honestly, a regular flange, epoxied in place, would work just as well, letting you use a standard plug.
I’ve got a DIY trick for you! Try wrapping your existing plug with some tape or plastic wrap to create a tighter seal, then coat it with a bit of oil. Next, fill in the gaps with JB Weld or Portland cement. Once it's dry, you should be able to pull it out easily, and it’ll fit much better!
You might want to try finding a flange that you can epoxy over the lip of the drain. Alternatively, if replacing the top of the drain is an option, that could give you a new edge for the plug to sit against. Either way, it should help achieve a better seal!

That sounds like a solid idea! Just make sure not to overfill, so it doesn’t get stuck in there.
