I recently renovated the bathroom on the other side of this wall a couple of months ago, and while deep cleaning a closet today, I noticed some potential damage in the bottom corner of the wall that shares a space with the tub. When we removed the old 1950s shower walls and cement boards, everything looked fine from the inside. Given this new finding, do you think this is definitely water damage that has migrated through the wall, or could it be from the demo? The wall is made of plaster. Also, I haven't checked this closet closely in years, so this could be older damage. I'd appreciate any advice on remediation as well!

This definitely looks like it’s related to water; I can see indications that black mold might be present.
I’d say there’s a 99% chance that water has come through that wall. It could have leaked from the old tile shower without you realizing the damage beforehand.
It seems like water may have seeped through the plaster into the closet. It doesn’t look wet now, but you should definitely use a moisture meter to check that area against other parts of the wall to get a clearer picture.
