How Can I Stop Mint from Spreading from My Neighbor’s Yard?

I recently had someone clean up my backyard and lay down mulch about a month ago. Today, I noticed some mint sprouting through from my neighbor's yard under the fence. I'm looking for advice on how to stop it from invading my space. Is there something I can spray or spread to prevent this growth? I don't plan to cultivate anything in that area, and I also have a dog—does that matter?

The best way to deal with it is to dig down along the fence and put a barrier in place. You’ll need it to go at least a few inches deep to really stop those roots from coming through. Don’t forget to pull out any visible shoots you see as well—tricky little plants!
