What’s the best way to hang a heavy picture without damaging the wall?

I'm trying to hang a large fraternity composite picture that measures about 4 feet by 3 feet and weighs 21 lbs above my couch, but I'm stuck because my lease doesn't allow any drilling or hammering into the walls. I bought some heavy-duty command picture strips that are supposed to hold up to 20 lbs, but I'm looking for other methods or solutions to get this framed picture securely up without causing any damage.

Honestly, I wouldn't risk it with heavy command strips. It’s usually a better bet to go with screws and anchors, as they’re designed for weights over that. But as you mentioned issues with your lease, it might be worthwhile to just ask your landlord if you can put in some anchors. It's always best to get it in writing so you don’t have any headaches later! Plus, safety first—hanging something so heavy above your head can be risky!

Totally agree! Last thing you want is for that picture to come crashing down. Better to be safe and see what your landlord says!

If you're really not supposed to put holes in the wall, you should definitely check out 3M claw hangers if puncturing the wall is an option for you. They provide a secure method while keeping damage minimal. Otherwise, be cautious with those command strips; I wouldn’t trust them to hold something heavy like that long-term. You might end up with a lot of paint to fix when you take it down!
