Hey everyone! I'm Caleb, a 17-year-old plant lover and the proud owner of a small retail nursery. I recently came across an intriguing aloe hybrid called 'Lode's Yellow' that's in danger of going extinct. Originally from San Marcos Growers, this plant has unique long, powdery grey leaves and blooms with yellow flowers, which is quite unusual for an aloe. It's believed to be a hybrid resulting from a cross-pollination of A. Koenenii and A. Vera by the seed seller Joël Lodé. Tragically, the only nursery that grows it is shutting down in 2026.
I've done extensive research and even talked to Mr. Lodé himself, who was not aware of this hybrid's existence until recently. I'm reaching out to see if anyone knows about this aloe or lives near California where it can be found. I'd love to find some specimens for propagation, as I fear they may disappear if no one steps in to help. If you have any info or can assist in saving this beauty, I'd be super grateful!

Hey Caleb! I'd be happy to help! If you want, I can call some retailers in Monterey County to check if they have any ‘Lode's Yellow’ in stock. I can even ship it over to you if they do. Just let me know!

Wow, that would be amazing! I found a retailer called Valley Hills in Carmel Valley. They said they could special order some for you. I'd cover the shipping cost, of course! Are you on board?
