What’s the Cost of Installing an Irrigation System for My New Home?

I'm looking for some guidance on the cost of an irrigation or sprinkler system for my new house. The total land area is 12,500 sq ft, but the actual house footprint, driveway, and sidewalks take up about 5,500 sq ft. This leaves me with around 3,000 sq ft for front and side yards, and a backyard of 4,000 sq ft. The builder is offering to install the system for approximately $11,500. Is this a reasonable price, or am I being overcharged? Also, should I consider doing this installation after closing instead? I'm located in Indiana.

In my area, that sounds like a fair price. Just make sure you check the builder's previous irrigation projects to ensure their quality. You wouldn't want a landscaper building your house without a solid track record, right?

That price isn't too far off. It really depends on how many sprinkler heads you'll need, though.

I recently paid $5,200 for a similar setup for 5,000 sq ft with about 15 heads. If you’re up for it, doing it yourself might save you a bundle. Just my two cents!

Thanks for the insight! Doing it myself could definitely be an option, but I'm not sure I have the time or skills.

Why not reach out to some local irrigation companies for quotes? It'll give you a better idea of the pricing.
