I'm looking for some advice on choosing a company for replacing my windows. I need 14 double hung and 1 sliding patio door (6 ft), with no grids. All need to be double pane, low-e, argon filled, and foam insulated. Here are the quotes I've received:
|Company|Quote|Products|
|:-|:-|:-|
|Window World|**$16,300**|WW 4000 series windows & door.|
|Local window & door shop|**$15,700**|Pella 250 series windows & door. (Pella "platinum elite" contractor, 4.9 google rating)|
|Regional window & door company|**$22,660**|MI 1650 series windows. Anderson 100 series sliding door|
|Local big home remodeling company|**$22,985**|OKNA insul-tec 500 series windows. OKNA Elegante sliding door. (4.5 google rating)|
My house has the original builder-grade vinyl windows from 2002. The local shop guy mentioned that for my situation, "replacement" and "new construction" are similar since everything gets replaced with a new window of the same size. Is there any truth to this? Also, since each quote includes different manufacturers, is there a significant difference in quality, or is one brand particularly bad? Thanks for your help!

I totally get your concerns! For window replacement, getting new construction windows with a nailing flange is really important as it helps with proper sealing and waterproofing. Replacement windows might not solve any existing exterior issues that could come up with an older home, especially a 23-year-old one. So, I’d lean towards new construction Windows for peace of mind!

Well, as a former window rep, I’ve seen a lot! The flange does make a difference, and definitely ensure your frames are foam-filled to manage temperature and noise. Just make sure to consider how the installation will be done. Are you planning to redo any exterior work too?
