I'm curious about which variety of mint has the strongest scent. Has anyone done a comparison of the different types?

Water mint is known to have a pretty strong aroma. It's definitely worth considering if you're looking for something with a punch!
It all depends on what you're looking for! If you're a cat, Nepeta cataria (catnip) is supposedly the best. But for humans, you might prefer other varieties.
Don't forget about Black peppermint—it can be super strong, sometimes even a bit too powerful!
Fox's Glacier mint is for sure one of the strongest! If you want a mint that really stands out, this might be the one to go for.
