Is It Normal for 20mm Strips to Be Bowed?

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with some frustrating issues with these 20mm boards (they're actually strips, measuring 4-6cm wide and 60-120cm long). They all seem a bit bowed when I let them go, although I can easily pinch them straight with two fingers. Is this a common problem? Should I be concerned that they're like this, or is it expected? I really appreciate any insights you can share! Thanks!

It’s all about the wood! Freshly milled wood can be flat, but thinner strips are more prone to bending with moisture changes. If you can, shellac the sides quickly to slow moisture transfer, but keep in mind it might affect your ability to glue later on.

If they were just cut from a wider board and not properly processed afterwards, yes, you could end up with warping. If they’re super bowed, try cutting them a bit longer than needed so they can settle for a few days before milling to your final size.

It’s pretty normal for thinner stock to have some bowing, especially if they haven't had time to acclimate. You might want to let them sit in your workspace for a couple of days and see if any of them straighten out. Usually, you should expect at least some to be decent after adjusting for moisture.
