I just opened a can of paint from Sherwin Williams that my neighbor, who's a pro painter, picked up for me, and it's completely separated—like there's blue and white just sitting in there! I've been trying to mix it by hand with a stir stick, but it feels like it's not mixing well at all. Can I successfully mix it myself, or would it be better to return it to the store? If I keep stirring for another 10 minutes, is that likely to help?

Honestly, if it's not too far, just take it back to Sherwin Williams and ask them to shake it for you. They usually do it for free and it'll save you a lot of hassle.
Keep mixing it by hand if you want, but trust me, a few minutes of stirring won't get it as uniform as a machine can. I’d suggest just running to the nearest hardware store and letting them give it a good shake. It’ll be quicker and ensure better results.
You can mix it yourself, but it might take longer than you'd like! If you have a drill, consider getting a stirrer attachment; that works really well. Otherwise, just keep stirring with your stick, but be careful not to add too much air!
