Help! How to Clean Auto Paint Spill on My Driveway?

Asked By CuriousCat32 On

I accidentally spilled some Toyota touch up paint on my sealed driveway after the cap came off in the wind. The spot is about a foot by 6 inches and the driveway was sealed just four months ago. What's the best way to tackle this mess? Should I try power washing, use a chemical solution, or just re-seal that area? I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks!

I'd recommend starting with mineral spirits. It's effective for removing paint without being too harsh. If that doesn’t do the trick, you may need to consider re-sealing that spot afterwards. Just be careful, as removing the paint could also take off some of the sealant initially applied.

From my experience with auto painting, most paint removers can damage sealant. If your driveway was sealed well before the spill, you might try using a stiff nylon brush with TSP (trisodium phosphate) on a small test area first. Just be cautious—there’s a good chance the paint will combine with the sealant, making it hard to fully remove.
