What is that chain-link fence thing I saw a contractor using in the grass?

I spotted a contractor dragging something that looked like a chain-link fence through a patch of grass, and I'm curious about what it could be. My guess is that it might be a magnetic tool for picking up nails, but I'm not entirely sure. Is that a reasonable assumption?

I think it might have been a 'brush hog.' These are used to clear out all sorts of growth on a piece of land. They can range from a simple piece of chain link to a full-on motorized machine. But it’s not exactly what you're thinking if you're imagining it picking up nails!

It could definitely be something like a lawn leveling rake, which helps smooth out dirt. Or it might be a drag or a harrow, especially if it had spikes. These tools are often used for grooming surfaces, like baseball infields. Sometimes they're just a piece of chain link with weights for leveling paths or dirt roads.

You’re on the right track! Google 'lawn harrow drag' for more info. I use one in my yard during spring and fall to clean up. It’s perfect for leveling out surfaces and breaking up dirt.
