I've got a large LN router plane that I usually use as it is, but I've noticed that the metal base tends to mark up the surface on softwood. I'm currently working on a project and could really benefit from a longer base, similar to what Paul Sellers uses in his older videos with the Stanley 71. For those of you who have made a wooden base, what dimensions do you think work best for general use?

I built a wooden base for my router plane to match the original size, and it definitely helps prevent marring. One of the best parts is that you can customize it for different tasks. If you're trimming tenons, you could even add extensions for added support. It's super handy!
My wooden base adds about three inches on each side and an inch on the front and back. It gives me a lot more stability when I'm working. Try to find what works for your needs!

Yeah, I'm in the middle of trimming some 2” tenons too, so that's why I need to make an extension!
