What Should I Do About Cracked Grout in My Shower?

Hey everyone! I recently bought my first home, and while it looks nice, I'm discovering some shoddy work that was done during the remodel. I've noticed that the grout in the corners of my master bath shower is cracking. I'm really concerned about water leaking behind the tiles. Can I just apply caulk over the cracked grout to seal it up? What are my best options here?

Cracked grout in shower corners is actually pretty common, especially if the remodeling was done without flexible materials. Instead of grout, those corners should ideally be caulked with good silicone caulk since walls and floors can shift over time. I'd recommend scraping out the old grout, cleaning the corners thoroughly, and then applying a bead of 100% silicone caulk. Just putting caulk over the cracked grout might not hold up very well in the long run. It'll be a bit of work, but it's the best way to prevent water from getting behind your tiles!

Thanks so much for the advice! That makes me feel a lot better. What’s the best way to remove the grout?
