I'm situated on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, where the grass is tough and usually wet. I've been trying out some cheaper strimmers, but they just don't cut it. I'm ready to invest in something more reliable. I know Stihl is a popular brand among professional gardeners, but with so many models available, I'm not sure which one to choose. I'd like a petrol-powered strimmer that stays within a budget of £300. Any recommendations?

The Stihl FS series is a fantastic option! I've been using my Stihl FS for over 15 years, and it's been a reliable workhorse for handling tough, wet grass. It's easy to maintain and you can even get attachments for tougher jobs. Just make sure to pick up a large roll of Stihl cord because it lasts ages. If the price is a bit over your budget, check out local dealers for used options—sometimes you can find great deals.
I'm on Skye too, and I get what you're saying about the wet grass! I use an electric Makita strimmer, but if you’re leaning towards petrol, a Stihl would work great, especially with the right cutting head. I personally love the hard plastic blades for dealing with thick grass. Switching between lightweight cords for shorter grass and those heavy-duty blades for weeds makes a huge difference.
Definitely go for a Stihl! I’ve had mine for years and it's been a game changer compared to cheap models. Make sure to get a harness, especially if you're working in large areas—that’ll save your back. The FS55 might be a bit small for your needs, so look into some of the bigger models if you’re considering a used one.
So true about the harness! It makes such a difference when working for longer periods.

Totally agree! Stihls are built to last with plenty of accessories available. Definitely worth the investment.
