How can I create a safe play area for my toddler on grass?

I'm renting a place without a paved driveway, and my toddler has a cozy coupe, tricycle, and several other ride-on toys. It's tough for her to use them on the grass because it's too thick, and while I don't mind pushing her, I can't always do it. I want to find a budget-friendly solution that allows her to ride her toys safely without making it overly complicated. I thought about building a floating deck that could also serve as a patio, but I don't have the skills or tools for that. Astro turf seems too pricey, too. Does anyone have ideas that won't break the bank?

You might want to check out floating deck solutions available at Home Depot. Companies like Deckwise make connectors that you can use to create your own patio. Just remember, the base needs to be flat, so that’s something to keep in mind. Using thick plywood could work as a surface, and you can get those connectors for about $3! Think of it like building with LEGOs!

Those connectors look good! Just make sure to get the right thickness for your plywood. Good luck!

Have you thought about letting her ride her tricycle indoors? It could be a fun alternative! Or if you're considering outdoor options, large format tiles could work too since some mimic wood. It’s important to choose something durable and easy to clean, especially outdoors!

Concrete pavers are a solid choice as well, just avoid the flimsy ones from the big box stores. You could even look into roll-up wooden walkways for a temporary solution—they can be easy to set up and take down. You’ll want to figure out the patio's size first, and then you can find the best materials to fit your needs!

I’ve seen those roll-up paths, and they work great! But you might need some kind of underlayment for support, though it depends on how you plan to use it.
