Is Replacing Trim Around My Window Cheaper Than Full Replacement?

I'm wondering if it's possible or more affordable to just replace everything around my window except for the glass itself. The glass is in fine condition, but the sill and moulding trim are scratched up and definitely need an upgrade. My window is quite large, measuring 8 feet by 5 feet. Can anyone give me an idea of what this might cost here in Canada?

Yeah, replacing just the trim will definitely save you some cash! You might want to check out some DIY window trim videos on YouTube. Even if you're not planning to tackle it yourself, they can give you a good idea of the project involved.

You could definitely call a finishing carpenter for a quote! They usually charge less than it would cost to replace the whole window and trim, plus if you find a good one, the finish will be top-notch since that's their specialty!

Absolutely, the trim can be swapped out without having to replace the window itself. If it's just scratched and not rotting, a painter might be able to restore it without a full swap-out, which would save you even more money in the long run.

Just keep in mind that if your window's over 20 years old, it might be lacking insulation since the gas inside could be depleted. If that's the case, a full frame replacement might be necessary, and costs can range quite a bit depending on materials.
