What’s the Best Soil Mix for Succulents?

I'm trying to find out what the best soil for succulents is to help them thrive. I've come across a few different mixes and I'm particularly wondering if a 3:1 mix of soil to perlite is good enough, or if a 1:1 mix would be better? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

In my experience, the grittier, the better! If you’re considering between a 3:1 and a 1:1 mix, I think a 1:1 ratio could provide better drainage, which is crucial for succulents. It really depends on what you’re going for, but less water retention often helps them thrive!

Got it! So, would you say mixing in more perlite helps avoid overwatering too?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer for succulent soil because it really depends on your specific conditions and the types of succulents you're growing. Personally, I find that an 80% inorganic mix works best for most of my plants, but what works for me might not be right for you. Experimenting is key!
