I'm dealing with a pretty concerning issue: the ceiling in one of the bedrooms of my house is falling in. The attic has blown-in insulation from about a year before we bought the house. The ceiling appears to be drywall or something similar, and I've noticed a large crack in the middle of a panel—this isn't where two pieces meet but a single panel. I believe I'll need to remove the insulation first, but I'm wondering if using the bucket from my small shop vac would be a good method to handle the insulation? Any advice on how to tackle this problem would be appreciated!

First off, make sure to check if your ceiling is lath and plaster or drywall, since that can affect how you repair it. Also, take a look in the attic to see if there's any sign of a roof leak. If you've recently replaced the roof, it might not be an issue, but better safe than sorry!
Using the shop vac bucket to remove the insulation sounds like a feasible plan! Just be cautious as you work. Once the insulation is out, inspect the area closely for structural damage before replacing the ceiling. If there’s any moisture or deterioration, you’ll want to address that first.

I checked, and the roof is about a year old, so I don't think it's that. It's definitely not lath and plaster either, and there's no discoloration above the ceiling in that room, which is a good sign.
