What are some effective renter-friendly solutions to reduce outside noise?

I'm currently living in a dorm and there's constant construction happening right outside my window. It's really disrupting my sleep! I'm looking for some renter-friendly ways to help muffle that noise, even just a little bit. Any suggestions?

Have you considered using a white noise machine? It can really help mask the construction sounds. Combine that with some form-fitting earplugs for the best effect. If you’re not a fan of earplugs, relaxing music could be a decent alternative too!

As a renter, your options are limited, but you could DIY a window insert using a sheet of hardboard covered with sound-deadening panels. It won't block all noise, but you might see a decent reduction, maybe around 20-30%. Just keep in mind it will block your view. There's also the option of using heavy sound-dampening curtains or a large moving blanket secured over the window.

Earplugs are probably the best bet to block noise, but I know they can be uncomfortable for some. You might also want to try layering fluffy comforters as makeshift curtains. That can help to absorb some sound, and if you have the ability, you could lean something against the wall to block the noise even more.
