Gaps Around My New Garage Door—Is Water Intrusion a Risk?

Hey everyone! I recently replaced my really old manual garage door with a brand new one that has an opener. The install was done by a reputable vendor (from Costco), but I'm starting to notice some gaps around the concrete base of the house after the installation. We live in the Northwest where it rains a ton for about 6-9 months out of the year, so I'm worried that these gaps might lead to water intrusion. What's the best way to fix this? The garage door installer suggested using spray foam, but that feels more like a fix for pests than for water. Any advice would be appreciated!

It’s hard to give you specific advice without seeing what those gaps look like. Could you post some pictures? That would help a lot! You can use sites like Imgur and share the link here.

Thanks for sharing! It definitely looks like there could be issues if water pools there.

Sorry about that! Here’s the link to the photos:

You might want to consider installing a rubber bumper strip at the bottom of the door. There are also side strips that can overlap the door by a couple of inches. These can really help seal things up and protect against water getting underneath the house!

Great suggestion! I’ll check out those strips.
