I'm looking for advice on dust control solutions for my woodworking projects. I have several tools, including an orbital sander and a miter saw, but I recently got a drywall sander and realized I need a better way to manage the dust than just opening windows. I've heard about dust extractors and wet/dry vacuums, but I'm not sure which would suit my needs. I prefer a corded system for constant power, but I do have some 20v and FlexVolt batteries if needed. My budget is under $300, and while I'd like to go for DeWalt equipment, I'm open to other brands if they perform better.

I recommend using a 4-gallon or a 12-gallon shop vac with an airlock attachment for effective dust collection. I plan on adding a cyclone separator to mine soon for even better performance, but it’s not done yet. Definitely a good setup for the price!
Dust extractors can definitely be pricey, but if you're looking for something more budget-friendly, a wet/dry vacuum with a cyclonic separator is a solid alternative. It's what I use for my miter saw and other tools, and it works great, though it does take up some room. For portable tools like my random orbit sander, I just use the small 20v DCV581 vacuum. I’d love to upgrade to the more powerful DCV585 dust extractor, but it’s hard to justify the cost since it rarely goes on sale.
Think of it like playing guitar—start with a budget-friendly option. I use a smaller shop vac for light jobs, and if I ever need more power, I can always add a cyclone separator to my setup. Just look for a good wet/dry vac, and consider this DEWALT separator link for a good upgrade when you're ready! That DEWALT separator looks interesting! Thanks for sharing!
