I have a spiral staircase with wide steel balusters that are about 14 inches apart. Since the steps are made of tile, drilling in new balusters isn't really an option for me. I'm looking for ideas to fill this gap, even if it's just temporary, because my dog likes to run up and down the stairs and I'm worried about him jumping off when I'm not watching.

Consider clamping clear polycarbonate or plexiglass panels between the balusters. Tempered glass would look even nicer but can be quite pricey. If you choose the right clamps, it can give your staircase a classy look instead of a makeshift one. Plus, adding more balusters might make it feel too much like a prison!
One quick solution could be to use a spade tipped drill bit; drilling through the tile is easier than you might think. If that’s not feasible, you could also weave some sturdy rope through the balusters to create a temporary barrier. It might not look the prettiest, but it’ll keep your pup safe!

This is a fantastic idea! I shared it with my partner, and now we're on a mission to find some acrylic sheets and cool clamps to enhance the staircase. Thanks for the tip!
