Hey folks! I'm in the middle of installing an exterior light and encountered a little hiccup. After making a hole for the pancake box, I noticed that it's thicker than the siding. Now, when I try to install the light fixture, it sticks out a bit. Is it normal for this to happen, or did I mess something up?

Yeah, this happens more often than you'd think. There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to siding thickness. You might want to consider adding trim or using a mounting box that sticks out a little more to cover the gap. Check local stores or online for options that match your siding type!
Right? I wouldn't expect it to be a perfect match. Just remember that not all siding has the same thickness. I'd suggest a mounting block or some kind of trim to make things align better!
Totally normal! Pancake boxes can often be a bit thicker than the siding. A good fix for this is to use a mounting block to bring the light flush with the exterior. That way, everything looks neat and tidy!

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look into the mounting box option.
