Help! Confused About My Gas Dryer Hookup

Asked By Homeowner123 On

I recently purchased a new home, and I'm having some trouble with the gas dryer hookup. The inspector and my plumber brother-in-law haven't seen a setup like this before. Can anyone guide me on how to connect my dryer given this unusual configuration? I attached a link to a photo for reference: https://imgur.com/a/QYNXtUZ

It looks like someone left a test gauge on the line. This kind of gauge helps check gas pressure and isn’t usually meant to stay there. You might need to remove that and install a regular gas valve or fitting instead. If you need a gauge for testing, that’s fine, but it shouldn’t be a permanent fixture.

Haha, I love the humor! Just a heads up, it looks like your gauge is reading zero because the gas isn't turned on. You'll want to get a gas shut-off valve installed to make everything work properly.

Keep in mind that natural gas operates at such a low pressure that detecting leaks can be tricky. The gauge you have utilizes a Schrader valve, which allows you to pressure test your gas lines with air. Just make sure to shut off the gas before you do that! If everything checks out, you can swap it out with a standard fitting when you’re ready to connect your dryer.
