Best Wood Options for Decking in Arizona?

Asked By SunnyDeckFan92 On

I'm planning to redo my deck and I'm trying to find the right material. I'm looking for something that falls between an expensive hardwood and fir. Given that I live in Arizona where it doesn't rain much and the deck is covered, I also need recommendations for a good stain or sealant. I have dogs and occasionally use the hose, so the wood needs to hold up well.

I used ipe for my deck, which I finished this past Spring, and I absolutely love how it looks! If you're considering treatments, have you thought about using Penofin for sealing? It really protects the wood!

Cumaru is a solid choice for decking; it's a great balance between teak and cedar. I built my deck with Cumaru about ten years ago, and it's still in fantastic shape. Just a heads up, I'm not sure what the current prices are, though!
