How Long Can I Leave My Potatoes in the Ground After Harvest?

Hey everyone! I just grew potatoes for the first time, and I'm really surprised by how many I pulled from the plants I dug up! Now that the plants have died (I've cut them back), I'm curious if I need to dig all the potatoes up right away or if I can leave them in the ground for a few more weeks. What do you think? Thanks!

It's usually best to pull them now before they start to rot or sprout. However, you could check back in about 2 or 3 weeks after cutting back and dig around to find any you might have missed. Just keep an eye on them!

It really depends on your local weather. I've found that if you don't have ideal storage inside, leaving them in the ground works great for me! They stay in good condition even into early spring. Just be cautious of conditions; don’t let them sit if the soil gets too wet, or you might face some rotting.

Yeah, I've had the same experience! They can be quite sturdy in the right conditions.

You can leave them for weeks as long as the soil isn't too wet. A tip I've learned is to let them dry out on the surface for a day after harvesting; it really helps with storage.
