I'm an engineering student looking into how we can improve the ergonomics of hand tools. I'm especially interested in identifying tools that not only cause hand strain but are also essential for various tasks. If there are tools that impact people with reduced grip strength or other physical limitations, that would be a bonus! What hand tools do you all find the hardest on your hands?

Opening jars or soda cans can be a hassle! Plus, those little tabs on liquid containers—ugh, they can be tough to pull off. It's all about the pinching and twisting, which can really strain the hands.
I find trimmers and loppers tough on my hands, especially the narrow handles on brands like Felco. With larger hands, it’s hard to get a good grip and leverage my strength properly. It's quite the challenge!
Pliers can be a real pain, especially when they pinch the palm near the handle instead of just at the tips. Needle nose pliers should only apply pressure where necessary—it's frustrating when it doesn't!
The Stihl 460v lawn mower definitely takes a toll! It's a beast, and my hands feel it after a long session.
For power tools, I’d say palm nailers can be brutal over time. Also, one-handed pruners and caulking guns really take a toll on my arthritic hand, but I’ve switched to electric versions which help a lot. Shoutout to DeWalt!

I totally agree! Those little foil covers on tubes are a nightmare. I have chunky fingers, so if my nails aren't long enough, I'm resorting to using a knife or some other sharp tool.
