Is DIY Concrete Work a Good Idea for Beginners?

Hey everyone! I'm new to working with concrete and I'm considering taking on a project to build six concrete pylons under my deck. The goal is to secure a heavy gym equipment piece directly to the pylons, which weigh about 3000 pounds (it's a Rouge functional trainer). Am I crazy for thinking I can do this myself?

I think it's a great beginner project! Just remember, if something isn’t perfect, your house won’t collapse. You’ll be fine as long as you take your time and plan things out. Just keep in mind that concrete is heavy!

Absolutely, it’s doable! Making the pylons strong isn’t the tricky part; it’s getting them to look nice that can be a challenge. I recommend checking out a few YouTube tutorials to see the process in action.

Starting with a practice project could be really helpful. Why not try your hand at making a small end table or some pavers first? It’ll give you a feel for the material and boost your confidence! Also, seriously consider renting a mixer and getting a solid plan going before you start—it’ll save you a lot of heartache and effort.

That’s a solid idea! I think practicing with something smaller first could really help me nail the technique.
