I'm working on an art project where I want to create an interactive piece that activates when two people stand opposite each other, each touching a metal plate. The idea is that when they hold hands, it will close the circuit and activate something—like lighting up a display. I'm looking for suggestions on how to make this work effectively and safely. Any thoughts?

Definitely consider safety first! You can use a moderately high frequency voltage, but make sure that the current is well limited to avoid any accidents. Just make sure the design keeps everything safe for the users!
You might not even need a direct circuit connection! Using capacitive touch plates connected to an Arduino can be a great way to go. When both people touch the plates, it'll register that as a circuit being 'closed' and could trigger something like lights. The voltage and current are super low with this method, making it safe and easier to manage.
