I'm having a problem with my washer that I can't seem to figure out. It makes this screeching or sharp scratching noise at a regular interval when it's running. My tenant has mentioned a couple of things: it sounds squeaky, there was a burning smell, and the spin cycle is really noisy. If needed, I can send videos of the issue. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

It sounds like it might be a belt issue. Those can slip or wear out and cause screeching noises. You could also consider the bearings as a possible cause since they can make similar sounds. If you notice any rubber debris coming out, that's often a sign the belt is the problem.

Yeah, I agree! The noise you’re describing could definitely be the bearings too, especially since it doesn't seem like any rubber is leaking out from the back. Checking both those components would be a good first step.
