Curious About Winter Gardening Tips – Freeze Covers and Alternatives?

Hey everyone! I'm looking into winter gardening and I'm curious about using freeze covers. Do they allow water to reach the plants? Also, will I need to uncover them to water my veggies? I'm planning to grow some cold-hardy crops like lettuce, kale, and carrots. Are there any good alternatives to freeze covers that you all would recommend? I'd appreciate any insights or experiences you have!

I've heard that cold frames can be super helpful. They are usually half buried in the ground and have a hinged top, which you can close during really cold snaps or open when it’s milder. It’s a pretty closed system, so watering isn’t too frequent. Cold frames are awesome not just for winter, but they can also help jump-start your spring planting!

Is this the same as a greenhouse? I have some grow bags that look like raised planters. Would they work for that?
